Our Logo

“The Absalom Jones Episcopal Center for Racial Healing is imagined as a brave space where there is enough courage to allow for racial healing and reconciliation to occur.” This vision is the foundation upon which the logo was created—a symbol of sacred work, courageous dialogue, and deep transformation.

The logo is designed to both honor those who have already embarked on the journey toward racial healing and inspire those who will join in this sacred and necessary work. It reflects participation, leadership, and the shared commitment to justice and reconciliation.

The logo integrates Adinkra symbols from West Africa, created by the Ashanti of Ghana and the Gyaman of Côte d’Ivoire. These visual symbols are rich in meaning and carry deep cultural wisdom.

Woforo Dua Pa A – This symbol represents support, cooperation, and encouragement. It comes from the expression, “Woforo dua pa a, na yepia wo,” meaning, “When you climb a good tree, you are given a push.” It promises that when one works for a good cause, support will follow.

Mpatapo – Known as the knot of pacification and reconciliation, Mpatapo symbolizes peace after conflict, reconciliation, and unity. It represents the binding together of those once divided, creating harmony and healing.

Color also plays a significant role in the logo’s symbolism, drawing from the vibrant tradition of Kente cloth of South Ghana:

• Maroon symbolizes Mother Earth and healing
• Green signifies spiritual growth andrenewal
• Blue reflects peace, harmony, and togetherness

Each color reinforces the Center’s values and mission, visually expressing the hope, courage, and healing at the heart of its work.
