The Absalom Jones Episcopal Center for Racial Healing recently hosted its first secular Pilgrimage of Racial Healing formation, welcoming leaders from 50 50 1 Georgia into a meaningful experience centered on reflection, truth-telling, dialogue, and shared responsibility.
50 50 1 Georgia is a grassroots, community-driven, non-partisan civic engagement movement committed to fostering participation, accountability, and tangible community change.
Board members engaged in the “Knees-to-Knees” exercise during their formation, responding to guided questions that invited deep reflection on personal experiences with race, identity, belonging, and injustice.
This milestone marked an important expansion of the Pilgrimage of Racial Healing model into broader community contexts. Through guided exercises, storytelling, historical reflection, and facilitated dialogue, the formation created space for participants to engage difficult conversations, deepen reflection, strengthen relationships across difference, and enhance their leadership in the ongoing work of justice, healing, and community transformation.
The gathering demonstrates the Center’s expanding capacity to offer this work in both faith-based and non-faith-based settings.
