Pilgrimage of Racial Healing

This class forms and equips morally courageous leaders to respect human dignity, realign with the spiritual and ethical commitments of our faith, and, through reflection and shared learning, confront racism and other unjust systems to restore justice in the communities they serve.

Overview

The Pilgrimage of Racial Healing is designed to foster deeper racial understanding, promote healing, and encourage reconciliation within the Church and the wider community. Offered multiple times throughout the year, this leadership formation pilgrimage invites participants into a reflective journey of learning, conversation, and faithful discernment. Grounded in Scripture and in the spiritual and ethical commitments of our faith—particularly the promises of the Baptismal Covenant—this pilgrimage calls participants to engage honestly with the realities of racism and other unjust systems and to consider how we are called to respond as followers of Christ. Participation is expected for all parish clergy and for lay leaders, including members of the vestry, in the Diocese of Atlanta. Through this shared journey, participants deepen their understanding, strengthen their capacity for courageous leadership, and explore ways to restore justice in the communities they serve.

This offering includes both required diocesan participants and those who choose to participate. Some roles may fall into both categories.

About the Experience

This transformative offering fosters healing, strengthens spiritual integrity, and fulfills the Diocese of Atlanta’s and the National Church’s anti-racism formation requirement for all parish clergy and lay leaders, including vestry members. It is offered multiple times throughout the year to allow broad participation and deep engagement.

Each session is led by highly experienced facilitators who possess an extensive background in a deep understanding of the complexities of racial healing. They bring a wealth of knowledge, sensitivity, and insight to the process, ensuring that each participant’s journey toward healing is guided with care, respect, and a profound commitment to fostering meaningful, lasting change.

General Information
  • Held online via Zoom
  • Time: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM (EDT)
  • Includes breaks and a 30-minute lunch
  • Limited to 18 participants per session
  • No more than 6 people per parish/organization per date
  • Fees:
    • No fee (Required, affiliated with the Diocese of Atlanta)
    • $100 (Required/Not Required, not affiliated with the Diocese of Atlanta)
    • $50 (Not Required, affiliated with the Diocese of Atlanta or the Diocese of Southwest Florida)
  • Customized pricing available for parishes/congregations, Christian educators, faith formation and other group cohorts both within and outside the Diocese of Atlanta. For more information, click here.
Tech Requirements
  • Access to video and audio on your computer or mobile device
  • Each participant must use a separate device and be in a separate room (even if in the same household)
  • Please confirm functionality before the session begins
  • A separate cell phone or tablet will be needed for select class exercises; participation will not be affected if one is not unavailable
